About Fredricks Communications

what you see is what you get

Effective strategies for branding and messaging. Disruptive advertising, marketing and public relations. Compelling copy and content. Strong ideas and absolute responsiveness. Promises kept and deadlines met. Always. A dry and sometimes wry sense of humor from someone who likes to have fun with clients and the work.

This is what you get with Fredricks Communications. For starters.

High-Level Advertising, Branding & Public Relations, Low Overhead

Fredricks Communications is an advertising, marketing and public relations agency in Fargo, N.D. The geographical center of North America is a stone’s throw from here, which makes this the ideal site for working with anyone, anywhere, even if you’re on the other side of the globe.

I’m all-in when it comes to hard work, integrity and strong relationships. Those attributes come with a commitment to the success of your business that is as strong as what I have for my own.

No Translation Necessary

Everything you’d get from a full-service advertising, marketing or public relations agency is yours, with the same or better quality but without all the cost. A senior strategist and writer – that’s me – develops your positioning and key messages, then carries it through with copy and content in online and traditional materials and delivery channels. You don’t have to worry about what I call “lost in translation,” dilution of your desires and ideas as they’re communicated from one person to another down a chain to those who actually do the work.

“Virtual Team”

Project management for integrated campaigns comes with the territory. I take care of the big picture and draw from a talented network of professionals – graphic designers, web designers, web architects, photographers, illustrators, videographers, social media experts, media planners, audio/video editors – to get the job done. Rest assured, I have the right people to put together the right team for your project.

Direct Communication

Straight talk is part of the package, too. I’ll never tell you one thing and do another, or recommend something just because I’ll make more money that way. And I’ll always give you my real opinion and guidance, regardless of whether it’s what I think you want to hear. That, coupled with the quality of the work and the results it generates, is probably why more than 85 percent of my work is from repeat customers.

B-2-B-2-C

B2B or B2C, I’ll help you develop a compelling, informative and persuasive narrative that grabs attention, makes your prospects and customers want more and is effective in moving them further along the buying continuum. Whatever I create for you – from a single e-blast or press release to a full-blown messaging strategy or ad campaign – it’ll be grounded in the bigger picture of your brand.

Three Decades of Experience

Last, but certainly not least, more than 30 years of messaging and copywriting experience in advertising, business communications, marketing and public relations, including several years in a couple of agencies, will be the foundation of strategies, content and copy I create for you.

Sound good? Good.

Let’s get to work.

So, Who’s Red?

Martin C. “Red” Fredricks IV, at your service.

I’m a husband, father of three, proud Fargoan and veteran messaging strategist, copywriter, content creator, blogger, corporate ghostwriter and social media specialist. Oh, yeah, a ginger, too. I like hanging out with my best friend, who also happens to be my wife, watching the kids in their academic and athletic activities, writing, hiking and riding my mountain bike.

I’m a voracious reader. I know… snooze, right? Well, I’ve been told – and I’ve found it to be true – if you’re going to write good stuff you have to read good stuff.

Prior to launching Fredricks Communications in 2004, I was a strategic planner and copywriter in an integrated marketing communications firm; a senior writer/editor at a university; a public information specialist on a U.S. senator’s staff; and editor of a weekly newspaper. My freelance stories and commentary have appeared in local, regional and national publications, and I’ve been part of lots of award-winning work.

But I’m not in it for the recognition. I’m in it to help smart people like you improve your businesses and organizations through strategic copywriting and content creation for advertising, marketing and public relations programs and materials.

Honors & Awards

Communicator of Excellence Award Icon

I love awards.

Who doesn’t, right? When my messaging, copywriting or content creation is recognized for excellence – wow, that really makes me feel good.

I’ve been fortunate to feel that good around 160 times in my career, when work I’ve contributed to has earned local, national and international awards from organizations like the North Dakota Professional Communicators, the National Federation of Press Women, the Advertising Federation, the International Academy of Visual Arts, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Check them out.

But is it good for my clients? Debatable. Check out my post on the subject.

And that’s why, in 2010, I decided to stop entering competitions and started devoting the time I once spent entering work into competitions to focusing on my clients’ needs, instead.

I think it’s been a good thing, and I hope my clients do, too. Know this – when you work with Fredricks Communications, you get high quality and 100 percent effort and focus.
